F.A.Q.

What time do I need to be at the clinic?
Depending on whether you are bringing a dog or a cat, we will schedule a time for you to arrive, usually between 8 am and 10:00 am.

When and how do I pay?
We accept cash or checks (checks preferred) made payable to "AFEW". Payment can be made when picking your pet up after surgery.

May I stay with my pet?
While dog owners need to remain with their dogs until they go in for surgery, please leave us a phone number where you can be reached when your pet has awakened from anesthesia and is ready to go home. We ask that owners not stay during surgery and recovery so pets can be monitored and recover quietly without noise and distractions.

Can my pets nails be trimmed and ears cleaned during surgery?
Please understand that this is not a full service veterinary clinic, rather a low-cost clinic solely for the purpose of spaying and neutering. We regret that additional services are not available.

When will my pet be ready?
We are not able to give an exact time. The veterinary staff takes pets in for surgery according to how their schedule works most efficiently, not based on who arrives first. You can expect a call from us, usually around 1 pm - 3 pm, depending on how many animals are scheduled for the day. We will call you when your pet is ready to be picked up.

Will I need to have my pet's sutures removed?
There will be no need to have sutures removed. Absorbable sutures are used which will dissove over time. Should you have your pet at the veterinarian more than 2 weeks after surgery and the sutures are still there, you can ask your vet to remove the sutures. Male cats do not have sutures.

What is the $25 deposit for?
A.F.E.W. is now taking a $25.00 non refundable deposit on all spay and neuter appointments scheduled for the Spay/Neuter Van held at the Hamilton Animal Shelter. We are compelled to institute this procedure because we have experienced such a high number of no-shows.

We are now forced to alleviate this problem by charging a $25.00 non refundable deposit per animal/appointment. This deposit will be applied toward your final bill when you pick up your animal after surgery. If you notify A.F.E.W. 48 hours prior to your appointment that you must cancel, the deposit will be refunded. However, if you do not show up for your appointment the deposit will be forfeited.

This procedure is being instituted due to the vast number of appointments being missed that A.F.E.W. has to personally pay for.

Payment can be made in two ways:

  • Go to our website at www.afewpets.com and click on the Paypal link and make your deposit there.
  • Or you can send a check to A.F.E.W., PO Box 1341, Hightstown, NJ 08520 BUT we must received the check 3 days prior to your appointment.

After you have paid your deposit, you will receive an appointment confirmation and detailed instructions.

Sorry if this causes you any inconvenience but in light of the past two spay/neuter days A.F.E.W. cannot afford the extra charges. If you have any questions I can be reached at afew_pets@comcast.net
